Upon initial inspection, it was evident they were suffering from a severe case of periodontal disease (gum disease). As this disease is relatively painless at first, many patients don’t take preventative action until it is in the advanced stages. Advanced periodontal disease can cause damage to the tissues supporting the teeth, allowing them to become loose and move around. This patient had started to experience some bone loss, so our team needed to take swift action to prevent any further damage to their oral health. Following the deep clean, this patient underwent tissue grafting. The replacement tissue is often taken from the roof of a patient’s mouth or another donor.
